Country star Scotty McCreery is no stranger to life on the road. Since winning American Idol in 2011, he’s toured across the country, played to sold-out crowds, and released hit after hit. But these days, there’s one little fan who’s made life on tour more meaningful than ever: his son, Avery.
In a recent interview, McCreery opened up about how life has changed since becoming a dad—and how Avery is loving every minute of it.
“He’s a total road baby,” Scotty said with a smile. “He sleeps great on the bus, he loves watching the band, and he even claps along sometimes. I think he might already have the music bug.”

Born in October 2022, Avery is now toddling his way through life backstage, quickly becoming a favorite among crew members, bandmates, and fans who catch glimpses of him on Scotty’s social media.
The country singer, known for hits like “Five More Minutes” and “Damn Strait,” says bringing Avery on tour has added a whole new layer of joy to his performances.
“I look out into the crowd and sing, but knowing my little guy is backstage with his mom… it just hits different. It makes everything more real, more special.”
Scotty and his wife Gabi, who is a pediatric nurse and longtime sweetheart, have embraced the touring family lifestyle. While Gabi makes sure Avery sticks to a routine, Scotty tries to squeeze in quality time between soundchecks and shows—whether it’s reading books on the bus, going for walks in new cities, or sharing a snack before bedtime.
“He’s already been to more states than I had been to at his age,” Scotty laughed. “He’s living the baby dream.”
Fans have fallen in love with the glimpses of Avery’s life on the road. From photos of him wearing tiny headphones at soundcheck to clips of Scotty holding him during downtime, it’s clear that fatherhood suits the country crooner beautifully.
And while McCreery continues to build on his rising success in country music, he admits that his greatest role isn’t on stage—it’s at home, or in this case, on the tour bus, as ‘Dad.’
“Watching Avery grow, hearing his laugh… it beats any encore. I just feel so blessed.”
