After years of silence surrounding a question that’s lingered in the minds of many bluegrass fans, Rhonda Vincent, the indomitable “Queen of Bluegrass,” has finally opened up—admitting the truth about her brother, Darrin Vincent, and what really led to their musical paths going in separate directions.
Now at 62, Rhonda is not only reflecting on her remarkable journey through music, but also shining a light on one of the most personal and misunderstood parts of her story: her relationship with her younger brother, Darrin, and why the two—once inseparable on stage—no longer perform together.
“There’s no feud. There was never any falling out,” Rhonda said softly in a new interview. “But life and music—sometimes they take you in different directions, even when the love stays the same.”
For years, Rhonda and Darrin Vincent were a powerhouse sibling duo, performing as part of The Sally Mountain Show, the family band that laid the foundation for both of their stellar careers. Their tight harmonies, natural stage chemistry, and shared love for traditional music made them fan favorites from coast to coast.
But in the early 2000s, something quietly changed. Darrin stepped into a new chapter, forming the award-winning duo Dailey & Vincent alongside Jamie Dailey, while Rhonda continued to tour with her band The Rage.
“When Darrin joined forces with Jamie, it was his time to lead something of his own,” Rhonda explained. “And I was so proud of him. Still am.”
She admits, however, that it wasn’t easy at first—emotionally or creatively.
“We’d shared a stage since we were kids. I’d look to my left, and he was always there. When he wasn’t anymore, I had to find a new rhythm—not just musically, but in my heart.”
There were rumors over the years—whispers of tension or rivalry—but Rhonda now puts those to rest.
“There’s always been respect. Always been love. We just followed the music where it led us.”
Rhonda shared that she and Darrin still speak regularly and cheer each other on from afar. In fact, she revealed that they recently talked about the possibility of collaborating again one day—a reunion that would no doubt thrill longtime fans.
“We started together. And we’ll always be part of each other’s musical soul. I don’t know what the future holds, but I wouldn’t rule anything out.”
As Rhonda Vincent continues to inspire with her strength, honesty, and soaring voice, her candid reflection on Darrin’s journey—and her own—reveals something deeper than any stage performance: a family bond that has never broken, only evolved.
“We each found our voice,” she said. “And I think that’s something to celebrate—not to question.”
